Elevating Your Network: Your X50-PoE (3-Pack) Mesh Setup Guide
Upgrading to an X50-PoE mesh system is a brilliant move for achieving seamless, whole-home Wi-Fi 6 coverage without the clutter of excessive power cables. Because these units support Power over Ethernet (PoE), you can mount them on ceilings or high walls, delivering both data and electrical power through a single Ethernet cable.
Here is how to configure your 3-pack system for a flawless, ultra-fast home network.
Phase 1: Powering the Main Node
Before you mount anything to your ceilings or walls, it is best to configure your primary node next to your internet modem.
Prep Your Modem: Power off your existing internet modem. If it has a battery backup, remove it temporarily. Wait about a minute, then power the modem back on.
Connect Data: Use an Ethernet cable to connect your modem to one of the auto-sensing Gigabit ports on the back of your first X50-PoE unit.
Connect Power: You have two options for power:
PoE Switch/Injector: Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable from your modem (or router) into a PoE+ switch, and run a cable from the switch to the X50 node to supply both internet and power.
DC Adapter: If you are not using a PoE switch for the main unit, simply plug the included standard power adapter into a wall outlet and connect it to the node.
Wait for the Light: Wait for the LED indicator on the bottom of the unit to pulse blue, signaling it is ready for configuration.
Phase 2: App Configuration
The entire setup process is managed through the companion mobile app, ensuring a smooth and guided experience.
Download the App: Install the companion setup app (typically the Deco app) on your iOS or Android smartphone.
Create an Account: Launch the app and sign in with your existing account or create a new one.
Follow the Setup Wizard: Tap the option to add a new system and select the X50-PoE model from the list. The app will use Bluetooth to find your main node.
Name Your Network: Follow the on-screen prompts to assign a location to your main node and create your new secure Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
Phase 3: Adding Satellites and Mounting
With your main network online, it is time to expand your coverage.
Take your remaining two X50-PoE nodes to their permanent locations. Connect them to your home’s PoE switch via Ethernet cables in your walls/ceilings, or plug them into standard wall outlets using the DC adapters.
Automatic Pairing: Within two minutes, the satellite nodes should automatically detect the main network and sync their settings. Their LEDs will turn solid green once a successful connection is established.
Mounting:
Use the included mounting brackets, screws, and anchors.
Ceiling Mount: Ideal for a 360-degree wireless umbrella. Slide the base cover off, screw the bracket into the ceiling, and twist the X50-PoE unit onto the bracket until it locks into place.
Wall Mount: If ceiling access is unavailable, placing them high on a wall using the same bracket method provides excellent line-of-sight coverage.
Pro Tip: If your home is pre-wired with Ethernet, always utilize wired backhaul by connecting all three nodes back to your main PoE switch. This frees up wireless bandwidth, ensuring you get the absolute maximum Wi-Fi 6 speeds on all your connected devices.
